CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Tri-Cities Fever committed five turnovers as Cedar Rapids pulled away after the first quarter for a 58-17 win Saturday night at the U.S. Cellular Center.
It was the third straight loss for Tri-Cities as they fall to 3-7 on the season. The Fever returns home Saturday night take on Billings, a team it is battling for the third playoff spot in the Intense Conference.
The Fever got off to a fast start as Rob Brown returned the opening kickoff 48 yards for a score and a quick 6-0 lead. However, that would be the Fever last touchdown until 12:32 left in the fourth quarter. By that time, the Titans (7-4) held a 44-7 lead.
The Fever has never beaten the Titans in five meetings and have struggled at the U.S. Cellular Center. Last season, the Fever scored a franchise-worse eight points in a 56-8 loss at the Titans.
The Tri-Cities offense could never get going Saturday night. Bobby Zalud connected on a 39-yard field goal with 1:10 left in the first quarter to make the score 14-9. The Fever then went scoreless for two straight quarters as the Titans scored 30 straight points.
The Fever’s lone offensive touchdown was a 1-yard touchdown catch by Brown from Hunter Wanket.
The Fever had just 85 yards of total offense. In comparison, Cedar Rapids had 257 yards of total offense.
Wanket completed 11 of 19 passes for 57 yards and touchdown. Pat McCain was 3 of 9 passing for 22 yards and three interceptions.
Sheldon Galloway led the Fever with five catches for 30 yards.
Aaron led had eight tackles to lead Tri-Cities, including a forced fumble and a tackle-for-loss. Brandon Wilson had five tackles, two for-loss.
