GREEN BAY, WI – The Tri-Cities Fever could not sustain its fast start Friday night, falling 23-20 to the Green Bay Blizzard at the Resch Center.
It is the Fever’s seventh straight loss as it falls to 3-11 on the season.
The Fever is at Billings next Saturday night before returning home for its final regular season game on June 25 against Nebraska.
Tri-Cities, led by recently-signed quarterback Jawad Yatim, got Tri-Cities going early, leading the Fever to touchdowns on its first two possessions of the game for a quick 14-0 lead.
The Fever then led 20-12 at halftime as everything seemed to be going pretty smoothly. Then the scoring drought.
Tri-Cities did not score a point in the second half as Green Bay reeled off the final 11 points in the game to get the come-from-behind win.
It is the Blizzard’s second win over the Fever in three weeks.
Green Bay took its first lead of the game on a 26-yard field with 11:42 remaining in the game at 23-20.
In the fourth quarter, the Fever possessions ended in a missed field goal and an interception.
Yatim completed 9 of 17 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown and an interception. He also had two rushing touchdowns.
Gant led all Fever receivers with four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. Akeem foster had two catches for 32 yards.
Marcell Coke Jr. led the Fever with eight tackles, including a sack and two tackles-for-loss.
On the first possession of the game, Yatim led the Fever down the field quickly and had the drive capped by Gant’s 7-yard touchdown reception.
The Fever extended the lead to 14-0 when Yatim took the ball on a quarterback keeper from 13 yards out with 7:08 remaining in the first quarter.
The Blizzard closed to within 14-12 before, Yatim scored on a 4-yard run with 2:47 left in the first half. That would be the Fever’s final score of the game.
